Beer Tasting: Three Floyds Alpha King

This is an American Pale Ale from Three Floyds of Munster, Indiana. This case was picked up at the Beer Yard in Wayne, PA. Adam fell in love with this beer last year after we picked up a case at Shangy's in Emmaus, PA. Have you tasted this beer? Let us know what you think. As a suggestion, try to keep the review as brief as possible for each of the following: appearance; smell; taste; mouthfeel; and drinkability.

Appearance Adam: orangy amber, decent head that dissipates quickly Bryan: tight, dense creamy head with random bubbles holds up for a while; some serious lacing sticks around as it's drank; nice solid copper with light orangish color Smell Adam: hop heaven! not quite as big as last years...is it? Bryan: beautiful aromatic hop aroma; grapefruity citrus; fresh grass and floral aromas Taste Adam: very hoppy, still.. it's almost equally balanced with malt, citrus Bryan: caramelly malt upfront quickly yields to pleasantly bitter hop flavor, which lingers nicely for a while after the beer is gone Mouthfeel Adam: clings to your mouth and persists Bryan: medium carbonation levels keep this beer jumping throughout the mouth; a good solid malt backbone gives the beer some heft in addition to the bittering hops Drinkability Adam: this is one of those beers that I seek out every year...and buy a case Bryan: the aggressive hops tempered just enough by the malt makes this all the more drinkable; one of my favorite Seconds? Adam: yes, but, I would switch to something less hoppy first; give you time for your tastebuds to reset themselves ;-) Bryan: it's the prudent thing to do; absolutely; there's so much to enjoy about this beer!
